Adenovirus transmission is mainly via inhalation of aerosolised droplets, direct contact, faecal-oral route, and occasionally waterborne transmission. Adenoviruses are often resistant to common disinfectants and can remain infectious for long periods of time on surfaces and objects.
The incubation period of Adenoviruses ranges from 2-14 days with an average of 5-8 days.
Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, conjunctivitis, pneumonia and general cold or flu-like symptoms. Adenovirus infection are most infectious during the first few days of symptoms.
